In it, Cyrus performs the track and delivers a choreographed routine while wearing a pair of vintage, fringed Mugler chaps that areolder than she is. She paired the turquoise chaps with a matching stoned bra. Both pieces are archival and date back to Thierry Mugler's spring 1992 ready to wear collection. The collection debuted in 1991, a year before Cyrus was born. Read Bono's artist's statement below. The great conflict that follows becoming famous is between wanting to be known and wanting to be hidden. The more exposed you are, the more you want to hide — which leads to masks and makeup and adopting a series of false faces. If you manage to succeed at that subterfuge for a few years, some part of you starts to resent being misunderstood (though you are yourself the author of those misunderstandings). Part of you wants to show your audience who you really are. It is a frightening prospect. What if you reveal your true face and they reject it? Then again, what if they don't? What if those people who cheered your image embrace your true self? You follow that thought until another one hits you. Do you even know anymore who you are? Has the public mask become your face? If you step into the spotlight and remove the disguise, will there be anything beneath it? Apple TV+ The past five years have been an extended period of my trying to expose my real face. When the planet locked down, I picked up a spade and began the work of excavating my own memories. Writing it all down. I told myself it was for myself. No one else would ever need to read it. As if I were not by trade and habit an exhibitionist! I came out of that long process of self-examination with a cinderblock of a hardcover book called SURRENDER: 40 SONGS, ONE STORY. I agreed to send it into the world. I was asked to record an audiobook and that became its own distinct production. Then, what had started out to be a conventional book tour with my reading a few paragraphs and signing (hopefully) more than a few copies, evolved into a tour of theatres across a couple of continents… admittedly on the smallest stage set Willie Williams would direct me on in 40 years… BUT this then became that… A stage adaptation written by one of my favorite writers/people, Bill Flanagan… AND I'm now on the road with this scripted one-man theatrical event, a cellist (Kate Ellis), a harpist (Gemma Doherty) and a musical magician (The Jacknife Lee ensemble) who all helped me reimagine U2 songs I thought I understood… Why stop there? Apple TV+ When the good people at Apple offered to film the theatre piece, it was easy to say yes. The show was up and running — "just bring in a few cameras and play it through on an off day." Enter the cinematic master that is Andrew Dominik. But — it was inevitable he would ask — "should a film not be a film? Something different from a play, with some bits moved and some other bits removed and new parts added and — while we are at it — a new set and lighting design?" And if the film of the tour of the original book has revealed new aspects of the story — should that not mean rewriting the book for the paperback release? And giving the revised book the name of the film: STORIES OF SURRENDER. Oh I'm so sorry… What a hall of mirrors we erect when we set out to show our real face. "We" and "our" being plural because in the end I look at this film and see a man of a thousand faces (at least…) Perhaps a man who is still unsure which one is true. They provide culture and community, generate local jobs and sales tax revenue, promote literacy and education, champion and center diverse and new authors, connect readers to books in a personal and authentic way, and actively support the right to read and access to books in their communities. Each week,we profile an independent bookstore,sharing what makes each one special and getting their expert and unique book recommendations. This week we have bookseller Angella Meanix ofWellington Square Bookshopin Exton, Pennsylvania. What's your store's story? We've been open for around 14 years. We started as a used bookstore and evolved into a new and used bookstore. Now we've fully embraced the emporium aspect of our logo. We pride ourselves on our customer service. We have a wishing fountain, coffee bar and a popular Victorian-style couch at the back of the store where friends, lovers, coworkers and new acquaintances convene. We have a variety of gifts, oddities, old-school candies and more. It's a passion project – the owner is an avid reader and has interviewed hundreds of authors since the store's inception, a true book aficionado and antiquarian. What makes your independent bookstore unique? The staff are top notch, the space is retro and fantastical – full of mermaids and suncatchers in addition to books, gifts, and decor that is eclectic and beckons you to come in, relax, feel safe and recede from the world. What's your favorite section in your store? The cafe is where conversations take place, delicious snacks are eaten, where adults unwind after a long day at work and where children practice their "please and thank you's." What book do you love to recommend to customers and why? "A History of My Brief Body" by Billy-Ray Belcourt is unexpected and shares the most intimate story of a life most lyrically and poetically.  The writing is excellent and the book cracked me open. What book do you think deserves more attention and why? "Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome" by Joy DeGruy. It dives into the core of why chattel slavery has affected and still affects us all. It moves beyond correctness and semantics and offers an actual emotional and psychological breakdown of the damage done. It should be required reading in schools. Why is shopping at local, independent bookstores important? We believe it's the only way to really fall into a book you may have never otherwise encountered. When you choose a book off the shelf, the book next to it could change your life. You can't stumble across something this way online. Reading and collecting books is also a shared experience. Customers love to share their viewpoints and experiences, and it's exciting to be in a place where everyone shares a common interest in books. Book enthusiasts want to build their repertoire and broaden their knowledge, and that's what being around other book lovers can offer. There is no place like a well-run, friendly, independent bookstore. What are some of your store's events, programs, or partnerships coming up that you would like to share? Book clubs are our most popular and well-attended happenings. We offer them all year round for fiction, non-fiction and classics. We also host a Poetry Writer's Group the first Sunday of each month. His trial was scheduled for June 3, 2026 and is expected to last four to five weeks. The "Get Him To The Greek" actor known for risqué stand-up routines, battles with drugs and alcohol, has dropped out of the mainstream media in recent years and built a large following online with videos mixing wellness and conspiracy theories, as well as discussing religion. On a five-minute prayer video he posted Monday on social media, Brand wrote: "Jesus, thank you for saving my life." When the charges were announced last month, he said that he welcomed the opportunity to prove his innocence. "I was a fool before I lived in the light of the Lord," he said in a social media video. "I was a drug addict, a sex addict and an imbecile. But what I never was was a rapist. I've never engaged in nonconsensual activity. I pray that you can see that by looking in my eyes." Brand is accused of raping a woman at a hotel room in Bournemouth when she attended a 1999 Labour Party conference and met him at an event where he was performing. The woman alleged that Brand stripped while she was in the bathroom and when she returned to the room he pushed her on the bed, removed her underwear and raped her. A second woman said that Brand grabbed her forearm and attempted to drag her into a men's toilet at a television station in London in 2001. The third accuser was a television employee who met Brand at a birthday party in a bar in 2004, where he allegedly grabbed her breasts before pulling her into a toilet and forcing her to perform oral sex. The final accuser worked at a radio station and met Brand while he was working on a spin-off of the "Big Brother" reality television program between 2004 and 2005. She said Brand grabbed her by the face with both hands, pushed her against a wall and kissed her before groping her breasts and buttocks. The Associated Press doesn't name victims of alleged sexual violence, and British law protects their identity from the media for life.

LONDON (Reuters) -British actor and comedian Russell Brand pleaded not guilty in a London court on Friday to charges of rape and sexual assault relating to four women more than two decades ago. Brand, once one of Britain's most high-profile broadcasters and former husband of U.S. pop singer Katy Perry, appeared at Southwark Crown Court and denied all five criminal charges. The 49-year-old has consistently denied having non-consensual sex since allegations were first aired two years ago. British prosecutors announced in April that Brand had been charged with two counts of rape, one count of indecent assault, and two counts of sexual assault against four women between 1999 and 2005. Brand, who previously gave his address as being in England but also lives in the U.S., is due to stand trial in June 2026. He spoke only to confirm his name and enter his five not guilty pleas, before leaving the court with his lawyer and some companions. The outlet noted that Klinghoffer was present in an Alhambra courthouse on Wednesday, where he pleaded no contest to misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence charges. Los Angeles County Judge Rosa Fregoso sentenced the guitarist to one year of informal probation and 60 days of community labor, according toRolling Stone. The outlet also reported that Klinghoffer must pay restitution – which is set to be decided at a later date – and complete a driver safety class as well. The sentencing comes just over a year after Klinghoffer allegedly failed to yield at a crosswalk and accidentally struck and killed 47-year-old Israel Sanchez on March 18, 2022. Klinghoffer was a part of the Red Hot Chili Peppers from 2009 to 2019, when John Frusciante – who joined the Peppers in 1988 after the death of their original guitarist Hillel Slovak – returned to the band. The rocker has since joined Pearl Jam as a touring guitarist for the band. Alone and happily adrift for the summer in Brooklyn, a young gay grad student hits the apps for an evening hookup, and within minutes, is met in a neighborhood park by a studly food-delivery cyclist at the end of his shift. Finding an unlit corner, they quickly get each other off, then more idly share a leftover order of slurpy post-coitalpad kee maoon a nearby bench, all before they so much as exchange names. For those who view swiping for sex as a violation of the correct social order, this languid, humid, perfectly played scene in Lucio Castro's "Drunken Noodles" will confirm all their biases. But there's also a gentle, easy intimacy to it, an understanding of the charged connection forged by even a fleeting erotic encounter, and that unforced energy permeates this balmy, breeze-blown character study. Following the ambitious genre experiment of "After This Death" — premiered only months ago at the Berlinale — Castro's third feature returns him to the woozy, sensuous territory of his 2019 debut "End of the Century." This is a slighter, more mischievous work, however, as befits a story less concerned with long-term existential inquiries than with brief carnal encounters: The Argentine director's warm, nonjudgmental gaze on youthful, libidinous play is a bracing asset in what continues to be a markedly sexless era even for arthouse and LGBT cinema. Strand Releasing has already secured North American rights to what could well become a queer cult item. As Adnan, an art student spending the summer cat-sitting for a wealthy uncle in New York City, he's impassive and inquisitive in equal measure. With his on-trend mustache and just-oversized-enough wardrobe, he looks the part of a practised urban hipster, perfectly accessorized with a job as an intern at a hole-in-the-wall Williamsburg gallery — but there's a faintly anxious naiveté to him that draws in other men, of various ages and types, over the course of three chapters sequenced in reverse chronological order. In the first, Adnan's initial tryst with the aforementioned DoorDash-er, Yariel (Joel Isaac), cues a tentative relationship between them that stays of a primarily physical nature. A halting, awkward attempt at a date unfolds at the gallery Adnan is minding, where an exhibition of deliciously filthy folk art is on display: colorful and intricately embroidered tapestries depicting men in various, vigorous scenes of orgiastic activity and BDSM roleplay. (Call it hard-cottagecore, if you will.) Intentionally or otherwise, the pieces provide a template for a later group get-together between Adnan, Yariel and a gaggle of fellow delivery riders. It's a rude tangle of jockstraps, helmets and bare flesh that Castro presents as a teasing still-photography montage, as if on another gallery wall somewhere. We flash back to the summer the year before, where Adnan meets Sal (neurosurgeon and sometime thesp Ezriel Kornel), the bearish sixtysomething artist behind the tapestries, while cycling through the woods upstate. Instant, unspoken chemistry between them leads into nonchalant sex, before a more unusual night's cruising that steers the film, with wilfully loopy abandon, into outright magical realism — and not for the last time. The next chapter rewinds the timeline only a day or so, revealing poignant context for Adnan's exploratory spirit in the previous two. "Drunken Noodles" may predominantly focus on the liberties and sporadic lonesome spells of single living, but it's also quietly sharp on the bittersweet rewards and restrictions of gay coupledom. One slyly witty scene sees Adnan sharing with his amused partner a perverse memory of inchoate childhood sexuality: the first secret of many in a sex life storied with passing, private encounters, collected and cultivated by our hero even as he pursues an open, loving relationship. A dreamily whimsical epilogue, meanwhile, makes the case for complete solitude. Everything feels aptly and pleasingly on the fly in this portrait of will-o'-the-wisp living: The filmmaking is never strenuous or overworked, from the casual, economical slices of Castro's editing to DP Barton Cortright's use of airy natural light and deep, sweat-dampened color. Other crew members do double or triple duty, with Yegang Yoo deserving of credit both for the film's sparse, irregular score and subtly character-attuned costumes. This scale and spontaneous style of production suits Castro's drifting, ruminative interests as an artist — here centered on everyday ecstasies and fantasies, of the flesh and of the mind, as found in a woodland walk, a perfectly presented derrière, or a greasy takeout carton.
