In PEOPLE's exclusive sneak peek at theFarmer Wants a Wifeseason 3 finale airing on May 22, John and dater Claire's mom don't see eye to eye about her role in their potential marriage. "I would want a traditional family," John, 25, tells Claire and her mom. "That can be controversial these days." "What do you mean by traditional?" Claire's mom asks, to which John says, "I'd like to work, and I'd like for my wife to be home with the children." TLC Claire's mom appears dumbfounded by his response, calling it "interesting." "I am surprised just because I can't imagine her not working," she shares in a confessional. "Claire never said, 'When I grow up, I want to be a stay-at-home mom.' That's never been anything that she's said." Claire's mom then turns the tables on John, asking, "What are girls for?" After a long pause, John replies, "Girls or women?" TLC "Women," Claire's mom clarifies. "What are women for?" "I have an answer. I'm just trying to word it correctly," he says before taking a moment to collect his thoughts as the clip ends. This is not the first time that John and Claire's differences have been discussed onFarmer Wants a Wife. On the May 10 episode of the hit Fox series, Claire admitted that she and John needed to have "some deep conversations" before their relationship could progress. John then shared the "totem pole" of his values and views, sharing, "It starts with faith, family [and] work." "I didn't grow up religious at all," Claire then confessed. "I get it. I get why people are religious. It's just I'm not." When John asked if she was interested in learning more about faith, she responded, "I'm always open to learning more, but like you and I grew up, you with religion, and me without it, and I think we both turned out to be kind people." "It happens all the time," he said. "It's just like we're in the same spot. It's just the avenues of getting there were probably different." Fox John then laid it all out on the table, saying that he was looking for someone who is "willing to be a mom, and then two, somebody who's willing to let me be a man." After their conversation, Claire admitted, "I think that it's quite obvious that John and I have some pretty big differences, but I think we got to the same values, just with a different path. And the more he's himself, the more I like him." John shared he was having "a blast" with Claire, adding, "That just goes to show you know the old saying of opposites attract really does hold credence, which definitely surprised me."
