For years, "MMMBop" rockers Hanson — brothersIsaac,Taylor, andZac Hanson— have been asked if the 15 kids they share between them would follow in their fathers' footsteps and become musicians themselves. Now, Isaac's 18-year-old son Everett is the first of the band's kids to officially hit the stage — leaving longtime Hanson fans floored with his surprise performance. On Thursday, May 22 — as Hanson fans from around the world flocked to the band's hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma, for the group's annual Hanson Day weekend — Isaac kicked off the festivities with his other band, Mother Road Sons. It was there that the proud dad welcomedhis lookalike sononstage to surprise the crowd with a solo. Everett hit the stage like a seasoned pro, jamming out on a teal guitar while belting out a bluesy, soulful track called "I Need You," according to a fan-photographed setlist. Fans immediately took to the comments section of every video they could find, sharing their awe at Everett's talent and the undeniable resemblance to his dad. (In addition to Everett, Isaac, 44, also shares son Monroe, 16, and daughter Odette, 11, with his wife.) "He is definitely Isaac's son. He looks just like his dad from 2000," one person wrote via Instagram. "It's like looking at the past," another agreed. "He's Ike in 1997." "When genetics are on point 😍😍👏👏👏," a third fan gushed. The resemblance was more than just surface-level. "He sounds so much like Isaac!" another person praised, with many of the comments noting how obviously proud Isaac is of his son. The group, who have sold more than 16 million records worldwide, has spoken over the years about the idea of their kids starting their own band — given that Isaac, Taylor and Zac were just 11, 9, and 6, respectively, when they formed Hanson in 1992. (Notably, the band was five years older — yet still considerably young at 16, 14, and 11 — when they hit it big with "MMMBop.") "We always try to make music a really natural part of our kids' lives and encourage them to enjoy and pursue it without feeling pressure to perform or make a career out of it," Zac toldUs Weeklyin 2021. For fans wanting to catch Hanson onstage this summer, the band is slated to play several music festivals across the country, including stops in Washington State, Minnesota, Connecticut, Chicago, and at Guster's On the Ocean weekend in Maine.
