The English pop star, 37, and the retired basketball player, 41, started welcomed their son, Sky, in May 2023 after two years of dating — and after initially hiring help, they've decided to keep childcare within the family for now. "We tried to have a nanny for six weeks, and it just wasn't for us," Jessie, born Jessica Cornish, tells PEOPLE over Zoom from a recording studio. "We probably will at some point because we can't physically do it on our own. But my mum [Rose Cornish] is really heavily involved as well." Ashley Osborn About seven years since the release of her last album,R.O.S.E., the "Bang Bang" artist is in the midst of a new era of music with two new singles out now: "No Secrets" and "Living My Best Life." Rose has made sure to help take care of Sky as her daughter wades back into the pop game. "She's here now because I'm so busy, but it's just been me and [Colman] from day one," she says. "And we're figuring it out." "One of us gets up in the morning. Sometimes I get up at 5:00, and I'll batch-cook food for the next few days and put it in the freezer so that he's got fresh food," explains Jessie. "We're a really good team." "We're just holding each other's hands and figuring it out as we go," she says. "Me and Chanan have a good laugh every night about all the things that we're doing." Sometimes, Sky even joins his mom in the studio — as he did shortly before this interview, while she recorded an acoustic version of "Living My Best Life." "I'm holding him while I'm recording it, and he's not a light boy, so I'm just trying to hold him, singing this really big song," quips Jessie, noting that Sky also started singing while in the booth. "He's the best, man. He's so smart. I love him so much." A bright side of parenting without a nanny is getting to be present for so many daily milestones. "He started to talk in sentences, which is wild for his age, but he's very advanced in his speech," she details. "He knows all of our names. So he goes, 'Mummy's Jess,' and like, 'Daddy Chanan.'"
