On Friday, May 16, 450 New Jersey Transit workers of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) walked off the job at midnight over a pay dispute,per NBC. The transit system affects 350,000 commuters daily, along with those traveling to MetLife Stadium that evening for Shakira's concert. Shakira, 48, is currently on tour for herLas Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour, which kicked off its North American leg on Tuesday, May 13 in North Carolina. The "Hips Don't Lie" singer also performed at MetLife Stadium on May 15 ahead of the strike, but there wasno transportationrunning to the show in East Rutherford. Kevin Mazur/Getty Typically, there are trains to transport people to MetLife Stadium from Secaucus and back following the event, allowing them to connect with other NJT lines and head back into New York Penn Station. This disruption will affect many travel plans for the shows. The venue, which can hold 82,500 people, posted a reminder to their attendees about traveling to the show, which many might have done via train. "Who's ready for Shakira's 'Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour' tonight? 💃 ⚠️ REMINDER: There is no NJ TRANSIT service to the show.⚠️," theInstagrampost read. "Tonight's show is rain 🌦️ or shine ☀️, reminder that umbrellas ☂️ are not allowed in the stadium. Plan ahead to arrive early and avoid heavy commuter traffic in the area." Alternate ways to get to MetLifeare carpooling or ridesharing (which may experience longer wait times and price surges), along with booking aMegabus ticket. Additionally, those driving in and dropping off friends and family members at the show are encouraged to park their cars and not leave the area until the show ends to help with the flow of traffic. Shakira's Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour previously suffered setbacks during its international leg earlier this year. In February, she washospitalized for an "abdominal issue"forcing her to cancel her Lima, Peru concert. The following week, her show in Medellín, Colombia waspostponed due to safety concernswith the venue's roof. A concert in Santiago, Chile in early March, was alsopostponed due to stage production issues. Following her MetLife Stadium show, Shakira will head to cities such as Boston, Toronto, Miami, Detroit, Houston and San Diego before concluding the Nroth American leg of the tour in San Francisco on June 30.
