Courtesy of Netflix ©2025 Sirensdemonstrates that wanting more in life while staying true to oneself might be easier said than done. Netflix's limited series, which premiered on May 22, is based on the playElemeno Peawritten by creator and executive producer Molly Smith Metzler. The show follows former attorney Michaela Kell (Julianne Moore) who is married to billionaire Peter Kell (Kevin Bacon) and works closely with her assistant Simone (Milly Alcock). Their lives become tense when Simone introduces the couple to her sister Devon (Meghann Fahy). Sirenstakes place throughout Labor Day weekend on a picturesque island. The show begins with Devon getting out of jail and texting her sister their SOS code word, "sirens." After not hearing back from Simone and seeing the edible arrangement she sent in response to their dad's early-onset dementia diagnosis, Devon sets off on a mission to rectify the situation. When she arrives at the island where Simone works for Michaela, Devon tasks herself with rescuing her sibling from the cult-like leader. However, Simone is not ready or willing to give up her life to care for her estranged father, Bruce (Bill Camp). Everything is not as it seems on the island, either. Between Simone balancing her picture-perfect persona and troublesome past, her secret relationship with Ethan (Glenn Howerton) and managing her well-meaning but chaotic sister, Devon, she's at the precipice of a disaster, hanging on until the pedestal she's built for herself and Michaela collapses. So how doesSirensend? Here's everything to know about the dark comedy's conclusion. Warning:Sirensspoilers ahead! Macall Polay/Netflix ©2025 The season finale ofSirenspicks up at the hospital after Ethan, intoxicated and heartbroken, fell off the bluff on Michaela and Peter's property. Eventually, Simone and Peter are able to see Ethan in the hospital. But Ethan is distraught by Simone's presence, claiming she is a monster who pushed him off the cliff after she turned down his proposal. Peter (a.k.a. Ethan's best friend) then steps in before leaving with Simone to head back to the house. All the while, trouble is brewing at the Kell household after Michaela discovers that Peter and Simone have kissed. The moment unfolds after Michaela instructs Simone to follow Peter because she's convinced he's having an affair. When Simone gets caught, she spends the afternoon with Peter, who later kisses her. Although it was a brief moment, aVanity Fairphotographer unknowingly caught it on camera. In response, Michaela had the estate's staff pack up all of Simone's belongings and donate them before firing her and ordering her to leave the island immediately. At the same time, Devon decides to go on a month-long boat trip to Palm Beach with Jordan (Trevor Salter), the captain of Ethan's yacht. She starts to understand the importance of making decisions for herself, especially after dropping out of college to care for Simone and later Bruce. Still, Devon has a change of heart when her dad encourages her to go and immediately forgets what they had previously discussed, leaving him upset and distressed. Macall Polay/Netflix ©2025 Meanwhile, Simone, devoid of emotion, is ready to give up, but she bolts when her father tells her that it will just be the two of them when they return to upstate New York. Her fight or flight instincts kick in, and she sprints to the Kell household to make her next move. Simone catches Peter's attention and lures him from the house during a big gala and tells him on the beach that Michaela has an incriminating photograph of the two, which can be used as evidence to void their prenup. Peter orders the property manager, Jose (Felix Solis), to destroy the photo and takes the opportunity to break up with Michaela, with Simone making her grand entrance in her gala gown to watch the aftermath. Devon returns to the house to gather Simone for their trip home before she discovers her sister in her glory at the gala. Simone makes it clear that she's not leaving the island, sharing that Peter confessed his love for her at the beach. Devon knows it's time to let Simone go, as hard as it is, and departs the island with Bruce. Devon later spots a familiar face on the ferry and finds herself sitting next to Michaela, who is tasked with starting over, again. Despite Devon's distrust and distaste for Michaela over the weekend, the two come to an understanding as the ferry departs the dock, their futures left up in the air. Courtesy of Netflix ©2025 Simone and Ethan's romance remained a summer fling after all. After Michaela instructs her assistant not to date anyone on the island, Simone gets involved with Peter's best friend, Ethan, who lives not too far from their home on the island, making it easier to sneak around. The pair goes through a rough patch when Devon shows up and surprises everyone, including Michaela and Ethan, who didn't know she had a sister. Simone and Ethan's relationship continues on rocky footing when her traumatic past is revisited, including her experience in foster care after the death of her mother, the subsequent unraveling of her father's mental state and her fraught relationship with him. When Michaela learns of Simone and Ethan's romance, she spirals into a panic attack. Meanwhile, Michaela takes Ethan to the cliff to talk, and soon after, he "disappears." While Simone, Devon and Jordan are temporarily convinced that Michaela killed Ethan, in reality, he flew to her hometown to bring back Bruce and Raymond to the island to surprise Simone with an engagement. Simone initially doesn't respond to the proposal, too distraught at the sudden ask and her estranged father's presence. Still, she later declines the proposal after Michaela tells her how difficult it was to be the wife of a rich and successful man. Macall Polay/Netflix ©2025 Throughout the series, Michaela is suspicious that Peter has been having an affair behind her back. Her hunch seems proven when her husband claims he picked up her favorite chocolates during a visit to Japan. But after analyzing his gift next to an overnighted candy box from Tokyo, Michaela notices a different ribbon, leaving her to spiral further. Michaela's paranoia about her husband is valid. Their relationship began as an affair, and Michaela is locked into an ironclad prenup that doesn't allow her to gain any of her husband's wealth in a divorce unless there is proof of infidelity or the couple had children, which she was unable to. As such, Michaela tasks Simone to follow Peter after he goes "off the grid" to track his movements in town. Simone isn't so invisible when she tails Peter, and he catches her before he sets off to the beach to go quahogging and invites her along. While they're harvesting the quahogs in the water, Peter confesses that he wasn't in Japan, but rather, he was visiting his estranged kids for his grandson's christening. He kept the news from Michaela because she has a fraught relationship with them, as they blame her for their parents separating. Macall Polay/Netflix ©2025 Devon only leaves her hometown and sets off to the island with one goal: to bring Simone back home to help care for their ailing father. Throughout the weekend, the sisters' bond is put to the test once again. Simone wrangles with her devotion to Michaela and her fractured relationship with her past and her dad, while Devon continues to try to help and save Simone, just as she did when she dropped out of college to take care of her sister as a teenager. By the end of Labor Day weekend, it becomes evident that Simone is not leaving her new lavish life, especially after connecting with Peter. The sisters have a tearful goodbye, but Devon makes her new purpose clear to Simone — she wants to go home to take care of her dad, and dropping out of college to take care of her during her childhood was the best decision she ever made. "I don't think you understand how proud I am of myself that I did that," Devon tells her sister. "You didn't serve me, and I didn't let you go. But now I have to." Macall Polay/Netflix ©2025 While Devon and Simone use the word "sirens" as their distress signal, the show's title has another double-meaning rooted in mythology. "This story has a lot of teeth," Smith Metzler toldTudum. "There are real moments of drama, and it's going to make people uncomfortable. Operatic is a word I like to use to describe it. It's a true dark comedy — and it's got a Greek mythology vibe." In Greek mythology, sirens were female, humanlike creatures who were half-woman, half-bird, perAudubon Magazine. Sirens were known for their enchanting voices who lured sailors to their ultimate demise. The concept is evident throughout the series, with mysterious vocalizations heard as the women — especially Devon, Simone and Michaela — exert their power, sometimes unknowingly, to have men falling at their feet. For Michaela, the reference is more obvious, given her dedication to aviary research-related philanthropic efforts and the power she wields over her group, foundation and husband. At the end of the series, Michaela confesses to Devon, "People will do anything for you when you're Mrs. Kell; you just tell them what the rules are." When Devon is shopping for a gala dress with Michaela's devotees (a.k.a. "The Fates"), they divulge details of their "special powers" and how they never pursued their husbands, but rather, the men came to them. As Cloe explains, "We have special powers. When you love yourself, when you project strength and confidence, Mother Nature bends to your will." Throughout the show, Devon's sexuality is used in part to thwart her bad habits. When she wants a cigarette on the ferry but can't have it, she turns to sex; when she wants to have a drink at the guest house but is working on her sobriety, she has sex with Eddy, a staff member at the estate Then, as she confesses to Raymond, when she wants to hate herself, she sleeps with him, despite his being married. Yet, she retains power over these men. After Devon tells Raymond that she hopes he walks off into the ocean and dies, he tries to end his life in that manner but fails. Describing the scene at the police station the next day, he recalls walking into the shallow water and getting taken into the riptide before claiming that Devon was the dark current that took him away due to a "crazy pull" she has over him, and thus blaming her for almost dying. Simone has learned from the best, taken under Michaela's wing, with her husband ultimately pulled into her assistant's orbit by the end of the weekend. Simone and Peter appear inextricably linked at one point, with Peter having a panic attack in Simone's bedroom while she huffs and puffs as she runs from the police station to the beach by the estate. It's there she's spotted by Peter, who follows her down to the beach, and soon after, he's replacing Michaela with Simone in his life. Read the original article onPeople
