Lynn Herringhas been keeping busy on the set ofGeneral Hospitalthis year, as the actress once again is set to host the annual Nurses Ball. This has been something she has cherished as it has kept her working after the death of her husband,Days of Our LivesstarWayne Northrop. Now the actress and her son,Hank Northrop, reflect on her late husband and share the experience that her son has had at his father's old workplace. Wayne Northrop passed away on November 29th after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Since then, Hank has followed in his father's footsteps and has joined the cast ofDays of Our Lives, with his first day on set in January. Discussing how she felt about Hank working atDays, Herring shared withSwooon, "That's been the best about Hank doingDays. All of them knew Wayne's sense of humor there. That's the first thing they said, that he brought a joy and lightness every day. And I know people probably saw that twinkle when he was on the screen doing Roman or Michael onDynastyor different things, but his deep love of making people laugh and making people comfortable, it translated through Hank's experience atDays, and I think for me, the lightness he brought to life got us through a lot of really interesting times. He was just a good friend to so many people." Hank echoed the sentiments saying, "Even when he was going through this terrible disease of Alzheimer's, the one thing he never lost was his sense of humor. That was always there. He'd be shooting finger guns at people and just joking around the whole time up until his very last days. He always had a smile and always was teasing people with his sense of humor." Herring opened up about filming the nurses ball, speaking toTV Insiderthe actress shared, "Usually, they have me do the opening speech and welcome to the ball. This year, Elizabeth and Chris gave me a speech about how Lucy started it 31 years ago. I choked up, and the audience kind of choked up, too, because we're reliving a tradition and then also emphasizing how dark it was in the AIDS/HIV days and how far we've come. And this speech, they just did such a nice job because it kind of re-lit my enthusiasm about how much in real life communities come together for a cause, and it became very real for that moment when I was up on the stage. It sort of flavored the rest of the ball for me, and all those memories came flooding back about what we have done and accomplished with the ball over the years. It's just a really nice way to start the ball off and get the enthusiasm back." The actress reflected on her time on the soap, adding, "To have that kind of longevity and to have people that still care about me and the character, it really means everything. My life has been off and on there all that time, and the folks that watch, they've seen pregnancies and crazy trips and adventures and friendships with the other cast members and the continuity and tradition. I think when you have a world that's off-kilter sometimes, that you have that thread, it means everything." Days of Our Livesstreams weekdays on Peacock, with Hank Northrop's appearances joining this fall. General Hospitalairs weekdays on ABC at 2 p.m. ET and streams weekdays on Hulu.
