Jesic resentenced the brothers on Tuesday to life in prison with the possibility of parole, according to theNew York Times. They were originally sentenced to life without the possibility of parole in 1996 for the 1989 murders of their parents, Kitty and José Menéndez. Members of the Menéndez family testified on the brothers' behalf yesterday, appealing to Jesic that Lyle and Erik had taken advantage of educational and community resources at the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility near San Diego to better themselves. Tuesday's ruling grants them immediate eligibility for parole, for which the brothers will plead their case before the state's parole board during a hearing scheduled for June 13. The decision comes amid a renewed chorus calling for the brothers to be granted clemency for time served, bolstered by a recent film and seriesrevitalizing interest in their case. Netflix released both projects last fall. The first,Ryan Murphy'sMonsters: The Lyle and Erik Menéndez Story, castCooper KochandNicholas Alexander Chavezas the brothers as well asChloë SevignyandJavier Bardemas their parents in a dramatic reenactment of the infamous crime. Erikcriticized the seriesas being "rooted in horrible and blatant lies," whileMurphy took creditfor the mounting calls for their freedom, declaring, "The Menéndez brothers should be sending me flowers." The second, a documentary simply titledThe Menéndez Brothers, took a more direct approach to the case, interviewing several family members who testified at their original trials, as well as journalists, jurors, and expert witnesses. Miles Crist/Netflix The case for the Menéndez brothers has largely revolved around an aspect of their original defense, that the killings were perpetrated in self-defense after years of physical and sexual abuse at the hands of their father. The brothers were first tried separately, but both trials resulted in deadlocked juries. Testimony from family members corroborating their accounts of abuse was controversially limited at the joint trial, which ultimately resulted in their conviction. Over 20 relatives of the brothers gathered in Los Angeles last October tourge the District Attorneyto consider resentencing. Halle Bailey accuses ex DDG of physical and emotional abuse in restraining order requestNew Foto - Halle Bailey accuses ex DDG of physical and emotional abuse in restraining order request

Halle Baileyis taking legal action against her former boyfriend and co-parentDDG, just seven months after the couplerevealed their split. Bailey, 25, accused the rapper born Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr. of physical, emotional, verbal and financial abuse in a restraining order request filed May 13 in the Los Angeles County Superior Court, according to court documents obtained by USA TODAY. Bailey and DDG share 1-year-old son, Halo. The actress and singer, who revealed in the filing that she and DDG broke up due to his "temper and lack of respect towards me," also claims her ex-boyfriend has made a habit of "badmouthing" her as a parent on social media (in addition to his rap career, DDG is a professional YouTuber and Twitch blogger.) Bailey says this behavior has resulted in online threats and "hate" directed toward her. "I realize that there is no placating Darryl," Bailey said in a statement attached to the filing. "I cannot allow this abuse any longer. I cannot keep living like this. I never know when he is going to demand our son be in his mother's care and whether I will be subjected to his threats and abuse." USA TODAY has reached out to representatives for Bailey and DDG for comment. As a result of DDG's alleged abuse, Bailey is demanding no-contact and stay-away orders for herself and Halo that would prevent DDG from getting in touch with the mother-son pair, in addition to requiring the rapper to remain 100 yards away from them and to stop posting about Bailey and Halo on social media. "The Little Mermaid"star also requests full legal and physical custody of Halo. Bailey asked the court to allow her to travel with her son to Italy in June, where she is set to film a movie. Bailey and DDG went public with their relationship in March 2022 when the "I'm Geekin" rapper shared a romantic tribute for Bailey's 22ndbirthday on Instagram, perPeople magazine. The Chloe x Halle singer later revealed in anAugust 2022 interviewwith Essence that the two met through social media after DDG messaged her online. 'The best path forward for both of us':Halle Bailey and DDG announce split Bailey alleges DDG has physically abused her on various occasions, even in the presence of their son. During an incident in January, the Grammy-nominated singer claims an argument erupted between the former couple at her Los Angeles home after she asked DDG when he would bring Halo back, according to Bailey's restraining order request. Bailey said the conflict escalated after DDG refused to answer her question and became visibly "agitated" as she was placing the baby in DDG's car seat. Bailey said she and DDG then began wrestling, with the rapper allegedly pulling her hair at one point and then slamming her face into the vehicle's steering wheel. As a result of the altercation, Bailey claims she sustained multiple bruises on her arms and a chipped tooth. Close-up images of the alleged injuries are included in court documents. The "Grown-ish" alum also claims DDG's "last-minute demands" to visit Halo have sparked disputes. In March, Bailey said DDG came over to her home to see Halo, despite Bailey's previous warning that she and the baby were ill with RSV. When she told the rapper she did not want the baby to leave the house, DDG reportedly "raised his voice and became verbally abusive toward me," later smashing her home security camera after he noticed it was recording. Bailey added that she filed a police report against DDG following the incident after the rapper allegedly took her phone and threw it out of his car window. In another alleged incident earlier that month, Bailey said DDG entered her home when she was not present, went into her bedroom and took photos of her empty bed. The actress alleges she received the photo via text message along with the message, "now I know what u been on lol," which Bailey said she interpreted as an insinuation that she was "having sex with other men." Bailey is claiming DDG weaponizes his online fanbase of "several millions" to criticize her motherhood. Per court documents, Bailey said DDG has accused her of preventing him from seeing their son, as well as having relationships with other men. The actress added that while she has attempted to set up a visitation schedule with DDG, the rapper allegedly refuses to establish an agreement. "He seems to try to set up drama for his fans. He goes 'live' ranting about me and alleges that I am keeping Halo from him," Bailey said in the filing. "This is not child-centered. I have asked him to stop this behavior. He continues. He gets paid for hits and this creates hits for him." Halle Bailey retracts criticism overex DDG showing their son on livestream Bailey said the "fan frenzy" generated by DDG's frequent posts has led to intense public scrutiny of her family life, including the circulation of the hashtag #freehalo. "This has caused me to feel afraid and victimized," Bailey said. "His fans then threaten me. I am often scared for my life and Halo's safety." A hearing in Bailey's case against DDG is scheduled for June 4. LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Los Angeles judge has granted a restraining order to "The Little Mermaid" actor and singerHalle Bailey, who says her ex-boyfriend, the rapper and YouTuber DDG, has been repeatedly violent with her and she fears for herself and the baby they have together. The judge on Tuesday ordered DDG, whose legal name is Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., to stay away from Bailey and their 17-month-old son, Halo, until a June 6 hearing. "Throughout our relationship," Bailey said in documents requesting the order, "Daryl has been and continues to be physically, verbally, emotionally, and financially abusive towards me. I am seeking orders to protect myself and our son Halo from his ongoing abuse." A message seeking comment from a representative for Granberry was not immediately answered. Bailey, 25, and Granberry, 27, were in a relationship from 2022 until last year, and since their breakup there have been "multiple acts of physical violence," Bailey said. In a January incident that she recounts in detail, Bailey said Granberry was repeatedly calling her a "bitch" as she tried to strap the baby into a seat inside his car. "The next thing I knew, things got physical between us," Bailey said in the documents. "We fought each other, wrestling and tussling. At one point, Darryl was pulling my hair. He then slammed my face on the steering wheel, causing my tooth to get chipped. I then stopped fighting back as I was in a lot of pain." Bailey included photos of her tooth and bruises on her arms in her filing. In March, she said Granberry entered her house when she wasn't home and texted her a photo of her bed along with a threatening message suggesting she was having sex with other men. A few days later, she said, he berated her when she did not want to send their sick baby on a visit with him, and smashed the Ring camera on her porch when he realized it was recording the confrontation. She said when she called a relative for help, he took her phone and got into his car, slamming the door on her as she was holding the baby. Bailey filed a police report over the incident. She also asked that Granberry be ordered to stop using his streaming platforms on Twitch and YouTube to turn his followers against her. "Whenever he wishes to cause upset, he starts bad mouthing me to his several millions of fans," she said in the documents. "He claims I am withholding our son and that I am with other men. As a result, I then receive threats and hate on social media." Granberry was also ordered not to possess any weapons. The judge can extend the order for up to five years at the June 6 hearing. DDG, from Pontiac, Michigan, first saw success as a video streamer and then as a hip-hop artist. On May 5, he released his fourth studio album, "Blame the Chat," on Epic records. Bailey, from Atlanta, has been nominated for five Grammy Awards as both a solo artist and as part of Chloe x Halle, the duo with her sister that first brought her fame. She starred in the sitcom "Grown-ish" from 2018 to 2022, and in 2023 played the title character in Disney's live-action remake of"The Little Mermaid."
