The 43-year-old actress sharessons Silas, 10, and Phineas, 4,with husbandJustin Timberlake, and she tells PEOPLE that the harrowing Prime Video series that sees her character's teen son accused of murdering his father left her with some real-life takeaways. "Oh my God. Tell your kids the truth," she says. "Do not withhold this hard information." Biel goes as far as to say that the show — which was adapted from Alafair Burke's 2019 book of the same name, and starsElizabeth Banksas Biel's estranged sister who she reunites with following her husband's murder — "scared me as a parent." "You have to know the right ages when to share important information, but you've got to tell them because otherwise,it just breaks [the relationship] down," she says. The show is "like a what not to do," she says, when it comes to how parents "try to protect your kids too much." "As a mom, the last thing you want is your kid getting accused of a murder. I mean, that is, can you think of anything worse? I don't know what's worse than that. So for me, it was just a good reminder of, okay, my kids are little and there's time to just tell them who I am and be truthful about that and be truthful about the things that are hard to say and the things that you don't want to tell, don't want to show." "You don't want to show your vulnerabilities to your kids, but you have to. You really have to show them that you're a real human," she continues. She acknowledges, though, that it's not always that simple. "I don't know how easy that is," Biel admits. Banks is a mom of two boys, too — sheshares sons Felix, 14, and Magnus, 12,with herhusband Max Handelman— and she tells PEOPLE that the fact that both she and Biel are "boy moms" helped them connect immediately on set — to the extent that it was almost "weird." Jojo Whilden/Prime Their chemistry "really, really just came naturally," Banks says. "We're both siblings, we're both boy moms. We had commonalities and we also wanted to make a really great show." Biel agrees, sharing, "We did have so many commonalities that, 'Oh my God, she has two boys? Wow. And they're little older than my boys.' So we just mom vibed immediately."
