In an interview withAARP The Magazineas their June/July cover star, the "Maggie May" singer spoke about how, at 80 years old, he is still thinking about making new music. "There's so much more music I want to create. I've got a covers album, a country album, and a Faces album all in the works. I just can't stop. Even when I'm spending time with my grandkids, my passion for music drives me. I feel like I've done everything I've ever wanted, but there's still more to come." He also got candid about how he embraces aging with enthusiasm and leans into the energy he has."When I feel I might be sick enough to cancel a concert, that's when I go, 'Maybe I'm getting old.' Then a couple of days later, bang, I'm back at it again." "I enjoy doing concerts more than I did back then. Maybe I've come full circle to appreciate how lucky I've been." "I keep myself very very fit," he said, adding that he's had a trainer for 35 years. "Frank Sinatraonce said to me, 'The art of being a great vocalist is by having lung power.' " "So I do a lot of underwater swimming on the bottom of the pool with a brick and you have to push it up the other end." Stewart also keeps his mind sharp with his model railroad hobby. "I've built this incredible layout which, apparently, is one of the best in the world." He tells the publication that his railroad creation is "absolutely massive." "Some of my skyscrapers are taller than my wife and I've spent 30 years making it." The "Forever Young" rocker takes his paints, tools and materials on the go with him. "I'll build a factory instead of sitting around the hotel room all day." "I've got a hobby and that is probably the one thing that's kept me sane," Stewart added, concluding that he's at his "happiest" when he's in his workshop.
