Apple TV+ dropped a short teaser and images for the forthcoming season on Tuesday, May 20. The streamer also revealed the series' return date of Wednesday, Aug. 6 — nearly two years after the first season concluded. The teaser begins with Rogen's Will and Byrne's Sylvia riding on the back of a golf cart. Sylvia refuses to pick up a club, saying, "Oh no, not me. I've never held one of these. I don't even know why I'm here." Will, however, steps up to the tee to take a swing, only to send the ball flying into the eye of a fellow golfer, leading to a frantic 911 call and lots of yelling. Platonic, co-created by Nick Stoller and Francesca Delbanco, centers on Will and Sylvia as former best friends who reconnect after a long rift and help each other hilariously navigate life's ups and downs as they approach midlife. Ahead of the show's 2023 premiere, Byrne told PEOPLE thatgoing from playing spouses with Rogenin theNeighborsfilms, released in 2014 and 2016, to playing best friends inPlatonicwas "different." It was an opportunity to discover different ways to find the comedy," she explained. Byrne added that the show "lives and dies on the friendship and the chemistry" of her and Rogen's characters. In addition to Rogen and Byrne, both executive producers on the project,Luke Macfarlaneand Carla Gallo reprise their characters from season 1.
